Resolution Circle Towers

General information

Resolution Circle is a recently established company, owned by the University of Johannesburg, with its own board of directors.

Resolution Circle is working towards providing the following specialised facilities and services:
• 100 applied R&D labs;
• A 900 seat training workshop;
• A technology testing centre for certification purposes;
• General high‐tech support workshops;
• A dedicated professional engineering workforce to support development and students;
• Access to specialised researchers in the university.

Teams of multi-­disciplinary engineering and technician students are paired as required in R&D labs, supported by experienced artisans, technicians, engineers, along with their academic supervisors. Project managers oversee the successful completion of projects.

Operationally, there are a number of interface models with industry partners:
1. An industry partner may rent an R&D lab and brand it as desired. As part of this rental agreement, the industry partner may introduce technical problems to be addressed by a team of students, academics and Resolution Circle engineers/technicians, utilising the development ecosystem. Industry partners gain access to students as potential employees, participate in technology transfer, and to university resources. This model provides an outsourced R&D model.
2. Industry partners may just elect to bring short-­‐term development projects to the development teams. This model allows for commercial project development with a defined start and finish date, under the control of a project manager.
3. Partnerships, joint ventures and share schemes may be considered to develop new technologies. Small enterprises could be accommodated by providing technology development through custom partnerships or funding schemes.

Through IntelliLab, a professional video production unit of Resolution Circle, extended marketing exposure can be provided for newly developed technologies, industry partners, and start-­‐up companies.
