The White Elephant Charity

General information

The name “White Elephant” derives from the 1800’s when word got round of a so-called White Elephant which was sold to an unsuspected buyer and who then discovered that his purchase was not what he actually thought it was and which was costing him in the upkeep thereof.
Since then, all over the world people refer to unwanted items as “White Elephants” and which are eventually discarded without benefit to anyone.
The White Elephant Charity Organisation (TWECO) was established as a Voluntary Non-Profit Company (NPC) in order to assist a variety of registered Charity Organisations who regularly receive donations of tangible goods, many of which they cannot use themselves or sell it in order to generate funds as they do not have the facility to do so.
TWECO is an innovative concept whereby unwanted goods can be placed with us by such organisations. Each item placed with us is coded with the unique code of the organisations involved. A price is allocated to the product and when sold, that information is electronically recorded and the proceeds so derived are then transferred back to the individual organisations on a monthly basis.
