Emma Park Montessori School

General information

Alta Steyn began Emma Park in 2000. The Park Class was the very first classroom filled with the children of people who wanted an alternative schooling experience for them.

After a few years, Tara (Alta's daughter-in-law) worked with Alta as an Assistant in the Park Class and soon after, became a qualified Montessori Directress. Happy parents shared their love of Emma Park with their friends and a small Montessori community of families developed. The Forest and the Garden Classes were added as the school grew.

Soon after, her daughter Maria, who also qualified as a Montessori Directress, joined Emma Park.

The school has grown from strength to strength. Both Tara and Maria stopped teaching when they began having children of their own, all of whom now also come to Emma Park. They are both however still very involved with the school. Maria is the school’s Substitute Directress stepping in whenever needed, and Tara organises the science experiments. Lee-Ann (Alta's daughter-in-law) has also joined the family business as the Digital Manager.
Not only does it feel like a home away from home for the children that attend the school but also for the people that work together there. Every Directress and Assistant who has worked here over the years has become part of the Emma Park family.
