In the late 80’s Brenda realized that, if she wanted her life to be filled with all that she envisioned for herself, the only way was to extend herself beyond the 9-5 daily routine of being a bookkeeper and create an additional form of income.
It was at this time Brenda met someone who was in the business of producing foiled business cards.
This person seemed to be making a good living and Brenda realized that this was something she could do to make up the shortfall in her income. Brenda approached the Standard bank for a R3 000 LOAN. They turned her down and a friend lent her the money to purchase her foiling machine.
She set this up in her bedroom of her flat and started talking to her friends who gave her the first business card orders. Friends recommended others and the business started coming in. Still working a full day at the office Brenda would leave at 16.15 and rush to as many businesses as she could before they closed at 5.00 to establish herself in the MARKET.
With orders coming in, the light in her foiling ROOM would burn long into the night as she foiled these business cards.
One day someone, whom she had popped in to see, asked her if she printed stationery. She promptly replied that she did not and left. However, the enormity of what had just happened suddenly hit her and, turning in her tracks, she went back to say she would be happy to quote for the stationery required.
Brenda then found a printing company to do all the work that she was sourcing. After a few years a printing company Director told Brenda to stand on her own two feet and taught her how to quote and suggested she purchase a printing machine which was set up in a rented garage. The business grew, and when that space became inadequate Brenda made the move to premises in Montague Gardens where, in April 1992, “Cronkies” was officially launched.
There were a number of setbacks to contend with, the most serious happening on a bitterly cold and wet afternoon of the move to Montague Gardens, when the movers dropped the printing machine off the back of the truck in the middle of a busy intersection at 16.30!
With courage and determination Brenda built Cronkies up into a business worthy of its place in the market. 7 years later, when she felt some time for herself was important, Brenda was proud to be able to offer a successful BUSINESS FOR SALE.
After a break from printing, Print4U was bought and, once again doing the work she loves, Brenda continues to be a positive force, not only in the printing business, but also in the lives of everyone she MEETS along the journey of life.
