Deon Binneman - Counsellor

General information

Deon is a psychological counsellor in private practice in Durbanville. He often employs the principles of what is known as Narrative Therapy. Narrative therapy seeks to be a respectful, non-blaming approach to counselling that does not impose the therapist’s value system on the client. It treats people as the experts in their own lives and believes that others have many skills, competencies, beliefs, values, commitments and abilities that will assist them to change their relationship with problems in their lives.

He consults with survivors (individuals and couples) of process and critical incident trauma.
Process trauma includes:
• Divorce
• Troubled relationships
• Illness
• Bereavement
• Retrenchment
Critical incident trauma (sudden and unexpected trauma) includes:
• Assault
• Hijacking
• Robberies
• Rape

Deon also has a special interest in counselling for substance use and dependence. He has experience of working with adults, young adults and youth that experience problems with alcohol or other substance dependency.
