The Hermanus Botanical Society came into being in 1960 when the Horticultural Society formally changed its name at a meeting at the old Astoria Hotel. In l983 the Hermanus Herbarium was established which has since been accorded international status and given the acronym HER. The Hermanus Botanical Society offers it members: Organized walks on graded paths in the Fernkloof area; Monthly talks on botanical matters; Day walks and excursions to coastal and mountain places of interest; Access to an internationally recognized herbarium; Annual spring wildflower festival with all the fun of the fair; Indigenous plant nursery where helpers and buyers are welcome. All members get 10% discount.
