The PlettAid Foundation/ Hospice Plett

General information

The PlettAid Foundation was founded in 2003 in response to the HIV epidemic in Plettenberg Bay, Western Cape, South Africa. Since 2008 the organisational focus broadened to include the care of people living with a variety of life-limiting illness, including drug resistant TB, cancer, end-stage organ failure and progressive neurological disease (e.g. motor-neurone disease).
PlettAid is a member of the Hospice Palliative Care Association of SA and its services are rendered according to HPCA and the Council for Health Services Accreditation standards.
PlettAid runs 3 projects: 1) Hospice Plett, 2) Plett Wellness project, 3) Invicta Haven.
Hospice Plett is the flagship project and aims to relief the suffering and enhance the quality of life of persons living with life limiting illness through the relief of pain and other distressing symptoms whether those symptoms are physical/emotional/spiritual or social in nature. This is done exclusively through home based care by a team of nurses, carers, social auxiliary workers and consulting doctors.
The Plett Wellness project aims to promote health and wellness through health education and screening and testing services offered by a mobile team of nurses and lay counselors.
Invicta Haven is a dream in the making - a fully equipped in-patient unit awaiting it's first patient - as soon as the operational funds for additional staff has been sourced.
All the services of PlettAid are free of charge in order for us to extend our care to all who should need it, irrespective of their ability to pay.
