South African Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse

General information

Main objectives are to support male survivors of sexual abuse and rape through:
•Creating a referral network of trained professionals, facilitating support groups and workshops - for survivors and their families.
•Educating communities and families.
•Providing information and resources to professionals and members of the public

Expansion of the Objectives:
•Referral Network: Create a referral network of existing organisations and trained professionals, councillors and therapists who are specialists in this field. To facilitate support groups and workshops - for survivors and their families so they can realise that they are not alone on their journey.
•Creating Awareness : There are so many myths and stereotyping surrounding male abuse and rape, men are therefore apprehensive to come out and attest to the fact that they were abused. We believe that by raising awareness of the implications and effects of CSA (Childhood sexual abuse) and ASA (Adult sexual abuse) amongst the public, male survivors, therapists, councillors and other organisations and providing hem the information and resources we will change social attitudes towards male survivors.
•Education: Pro-active education and awareness programmes for government institutions, non government organisations, schools , universities and communities in and around South Africa that is specific to issues around the abuse and rape of boys and men. SAMSOSA will partner with existing groups offering education and literature will be produced specifically for these awareness programmes.
