General information

Adama chalets offers fully equipped self-catering accommodation for families and small groups of friends, set in the heart of the bushveld inside the Dinokeng Big 5 Game Reserve. Situated only 40kms North of Pretoria, and only a bit more than an hour’s drive from Johannesburg, it is the ideal weekend breakaway destination for unwinding & taking a break from the hustle & bustle of city life.

We invite you to stay over in our beautiful chalets with their wonderful serene atmosphere. Our larger, original chalets were built in the traditional manner – with straw and daub, and our newer more intimate chalets are very quaint and have maintained the same adobe style and feel that our guests have come to know over the years for their unique and charming design, with reed ceilings & tin roofs.

Our two large chalets can sleep up to seven people each (5 adults & 2 children most comfortably), as they each have one private bedroom with a king size bed, 3 single beds in the upstairs loft, a viewing deck off the loft, and two single bed sized couch beds in the lounge. Both chalets, the Chalet Hoopoo/Hoepoe and Chalet Kingfisher/Visvanger, have electricity, bath/showers, a separate toilet, as well as outside showers. The Kingfisher also has a walled-in open-air outside bathroom, with large sink tub & toilet, from which to overlook the bushveld surrounds.

Our two smaller chalets can sleep two adults and one child comfortably, but are also perfectly suited for romantic couple getaways, as they have a more open plan feel with a divider wall separating the kitchen & lounge from the bedroom area. In each of the chalets there is a king/queen sized bed (respectively) and a single bed sized couch bed in the lounge. Both chalets – Chalet Plover/Kiewiet and Chalet Bushbaby/Nagapie have electricity, bath/shower, a separate toilet, and a splash tub on the patio. These chalets also each have a wood burning stove inside for those cold winter months.

A central pool is located within short driving distance from the chalets for use by all guests, and as we are unfenced from the reserve, we ask that guests must please be attentive outdoors during their stay and to please refrain from walking in the bush.

All our chalets have their own private boma braai area outside, and we provide an initial complimentary bag of wood, adequate for the first night, but there is also a convenience shop, just 3km away, where any extra snacks, drinks or more wood can be bought to replenish your stocks. We kindly urge that wood NOT be gathered from the bush around the chalets.

The kitchens are all fully equipped with a fridge, gas stove, kettle, toaster, microwave, and the crockery and most of the furniture are handmade by the owners. Linen is also provided, but guests are required to please ensure to bring along their own towels and toiletries (eg. Shampoo, bath soap, etc) for the visit.
