Ladles of Love

General information

Ladles of Love is a volunteer-run soup kitchen and feeding program for people in need. Since inception in July 2014 where we started with one kitchen each Tuesday, we've expanded significantly. We now serve 3 meals a week without fail to the homeless community.

Now we are expanding into primary schools - focusing on providing nutritious, fresh food to young learners coming to school without a meal of their own. We now feed approx 760 students lunch each week.

All food is vegetarian and is freshly prepared in the kitchen of Doppio Zero, St George’s Mall. The soup is a thick wholesome broth of potatoes, butternut, carrots, lentils and rice with a careful blend of spices - cooked over a number of hours to create a delicious meal.

Through this Facebook page we hope to inspire and provide support for others who would like to start similar kitchens. We want to offer and grow a strong support network for all similar and related projects in our beautiful city and beyond. We look forward to meeting you and together changing lives, serving the hungry, and feeding the soul - one bowl of soup at a time.

All donations - no matter how large or small - are gratefully received and go directly towards our feeding programmes.

We have 3 kitchens that run weekly, and require volunteers to assist us with the following kitchens:

Tuesday: 17h45 - 18h45: Meet at Doppio Zero, Mandela Rhodes Place, Cnr. Church Street and St George's Mall, Cape Town City Centre.

Thursday: 17h30 - 18h30: Meet outside the Night Haven Shelter, 2 Napier Street, Green Point

Saturday: 12h00 - 13h00: (and we often go for lunch as a team afterwards as well if you would like to join)14B Roeland Street (outside the Carpenter shop)

All you need to do to volunteer is show up. Simple as that.
