General information

MiDO Technologies is a Stellenbosch-based small business which specialises in information technology (IT) and provides “community-focused IT solutions” to educational institutions and public benefit organisations.
With the roll-out of WiFi in South Africa and the affordability of handheld devices for the masses, IT has become central to how we communicate and connect with each other, but most importantly gather, analyse, process, use and ultimately protect sensitive data. Understanding how to utilise data effectively to grow, develop and support your organisation’s core business is therefore vital to the long-term sustainability of any organisation.

How MiDO helps its clients
Our aim is to add value to our clients’ businesses by offering information and communication technology (ICT) solutions through our managed ICT service which is based on a seven-point assessment. The assessment score card is then used as a base from which to help our clients align their ICT to their organisation’s strategic objectives.
The service entails, amongst others:

• an analysis of the client’s ICT needs and the development of a road map on how to address those needs,
• an assessment of current IT infrastructure (like connectivity or network services) to determine where there are infrastructural gaps and how to address them,
• future capacity planning by ensuring that technology investments made are driven by a client’s core business objectives and that expenditure in this regard meets real and urgent business needs,
• a budget and financial plan to ensure that all IT-related expenditure, which includes staff and other resources such as Internet, Microsoft Office applications and e-mail, is incorporated into the overall budget, and
• IT governance and risk management to ensure that data is managed and stored correctly, but most importantly, also protected.

How we started
MiDO is a social enterprise – a business that generates profit but focuses its services on the improvement of social or environmental needs – which was established in 2012. It services a gap in the public benefit and educational environments by offering cost-effective managed ICT services to establishments in these environments in order to help them deliver more efficiently on their core functions.

Our mission
At MiDO, we believe that the integration of IT in communities is crucial in fighting social injustice, alleviating poverty and specifically advancing education.

Our mission therefore is to design, plan, implement and support our clients’ ICT environment so that it aligns with their core business objectives. At the same time, we aim to ensure that their business needs are met by putting the right technology in place and doing all of the above within a cost effective and timely manner.

At MiDO, we grow our own timber

MiDO’s Youth ICT Apprenticeship Programme will be launched in 2015. The aim of this one-year programme is to provide young people with an opportunity to develop holistically by focusing on their emotional, physical and spiritual well-being and to provide them with a technical skill set to develop their own career path in the ICT sector. On-the-job mentorship is a key focus of this programme.

MiDO Technologies requires funding and investments to make a success of its Apprenticeship Programme, which is a skills development initiative with the added benefit of providing ICT support to organisations by grooming young technicians for this purpose.

Our track record shows specialist involvement in education and community projects and we believe that your financial support will go a long way in helping us to establish this development programme.

Our current projects

At present, MiDO is responsible for coordinating the various ICT services and solutions offered by service providers working on the Franschhoek Schools ICT Integration Project of the Rupert Education Foundation. Some of MiDO’s clients in the past have included Project Isizwe, a government supported non-profit organisation responsible for the roll-out of free WiFi in low-income communities across South Africa, as well as Spier.
