uTukela Clay Art Company Information
General information
uTukela Clay Art
The word uTukela is a Zulu word which means Tugela and refers to "The Tugela River".
As far back as 21 years, a small tribe in the Natal Midlands, in close proximity to the Tugela river, earned a living out of crafting sculptures using Tugela river clay.
Each piece is uniquely handcrafted and painted, using only their hands and grass as tools. Whilst the clay material is mixed with a bonding additive to maximise durability and lifespan, the art remains fragile, as in the case of ceramic or glass, if not handled with care.
uTukela Clay Art, were established in 2013.
We hope that each piece of art purchased for your home, or as a gift, will be received with the same love and kindness it was made, as symbolised by the visible smile on each animal's face.
