General information

Lowestoffe Country Lodge is set against the backdrop of the magnificent Elandsberg Mountains with expansive grasslands, rocky ridges and a gently meandering river. This pristine setting, in the amphitheatre of the Hogsback area, offers the ideal opportunity for family holidays and weekend getaways.

Lowestoffe Country Lodge is situated on 5500 hectares of holistically managed land, comprising four adjoining farms. Lowestoffe and Rooken have been in the family for four generations while Woodhouselea and Rockford Park were acquired in 2002. Sheep and cattle form the backbone of the farming enterprise while the farm has been home to the Africa’s Sport Horse Stud since 1994.

The vast open spaces and diverse topography lends itself to outdoor activities, and among the many we specialize in fly fishing (Trout, Bass and Yellow fish), horse trail rides, mountain biking and hiking. The picturesque Klipplaat River traverses the farm for 18 km providing numerous scenic spots to enjoy a picnic or deep water pools from which to cast a line for Yellow fish.

Each of the three lodges is located on a separate farm thus providing a private yet safe holiday experience. The gardens around the houses have large lawns and the views are all spectacular. The lodges are comfortably and tastefully decorated.

The weather is variable with snow recorded in all 12 months of the year. The nights tend to be chilly, even in the summer months therefore the fireplaces in the living areas create a cosy ambience – a perfect place to snuggle up with a glass of wine or a good book and that slab of chocolate!

The change of seasons is dramatic and a feast for the eyes. The autumn landscape is truly breathtaking with myriad shades of gold, amber and rust while spring is a riot of greens and blossoms. Summer settles into deep hues of emerald while the winter scenery is stark with the perpetual promise of waking to a world turned white overnight.
